If you ever asked yourself what is DALIA we now have a simple answer for you. In the explanation video “DALIA – Data Literacy made simple” we explain what is the motivation behind DALIA, who is our target group and how you can profit by using the DALIA search portal. Check it out here.

New Features on the DALIA Platform
Expanded Filter Options
We have expanded our filter options from four (Target Group, Media Type,Learning Resource Type and Language) to ten. New on board are: Proficiency Level, Discipline, License, File Format, Community and Publication Date. All are available in both basic and advanced search modes.
Citation & Share Features
Found a good resource on DALIA that you want to cite? We now provide a citation feature for the result list and the resource detail page. Just click on the button [“] and you will get 3 citation styles (APA, MLA and BibTex) to choose from that you can directly copy to your clipboard. The BibTex style also provides the link to the original resource besides the link to the DALIA resource detail page. Additionally, we now offer a share feature where you can copy the URL to the resource in DALIA with one click to your clipboard. Furthermore, an export of the metadata in JSON format is available. Give it a try!
Recommendations
Found a good resource and you are curious what else we have to offer? At the bottom of the resource detail page we now offer a section with recommendations of similar content for you. Check it out!

OER Repositories for Data Literacy: Analyses and Results
The landscape of research data management (RDM) in Germany is vast and highly fragmented. Numerous RDM projects, particularly the consortia of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI), state initiatives, data competence centers, and many others, create and curate training materials on RDM and data literacy. These materials are usually published within the scope of the projects as Open Educational Resources (OER). Publication typically takes place in dedicated repositories, which has led to the emergence of a large number of such repositories. For OER users, however, this is a challenging situation: because there is no cross-repository search, efficient searching and orientation are hindered. The DALIA project has therefore developed a web platform specifically for RDM and data literacy OER that enables centralized search and discoverability of materials. To gain an overview of the multitude of existing repositories and their functions, an analysis of 86 repositories was conducted. The results of this investigation are presented in this article available on Zenodo.
DALIA & Chemistry
Members of DLIA worked together with Chemists on a use case. The topic was: Teaching RDM in a smart advanced inorganic lab course and its provision in the DALIA platform. You want to get a sneak peak on our joint publication? We put our paper submission on the preprint server arxiv. Check it out.
DALIA Events
DALIA Satellite Meeting to CoRDI 2025
On Monday, August 25th, the RWTH Aachen University Institute of Inorganic Chemistry hosted the DALIA Satellite Meeting to the Conference on Research Data Infrastructure (CoRDI) 2025. During the meeting a variety of presentations and discussions on data literacy, training platforms, and FAIR approaches in research and teaching were held. More information can be found here: DALIA Satellite Meeting to CoRDI 2025.

Workshop: How to conduct research and teach with and about data in philosophy?
Within the spectrum of the humanities, philosophy represents a special case in terms of its need for digital tools, infrastructures, data, and skills. This is also reflected in the fact that, to date, the discussion of research data, Open Educational Resources, and data literacy in philosophy has tended to remain marginal. For this reason, on September 4th and 5th, 2025, a collaborative workshop organized by DALIA and the “Philosophie der Digitalität” working group of the German Society for Philosophy was held at the Academy of Sciences and Literature, Mainz. The aim was, on the one hand, to bring together case studies of philosophy done digitally and, on the other hand, to address questions concerning the teaching and curricular integration of data literacy. One outcome of the workshop was that the discussion, in all its complexity, needs to be continued in order to meet the needs of researchers, teachers, and learners in philosophy with regard to digital tools and skills. Conference Participations of DALIA
DALIA at 2nd CoRDI 2025 and 2nd Base4NFDI User Conference
The DALIA project was strongly represented at the 2nd Conference on Research Data Infrastructure (CoRDI) 2025 in Aachen. During the two poster sessions in the first half of the conference, we presented three posters on various aspects of the DALIA project. In the second half of the conference, we had the opportunity to present the current state of the DALIA search platform, including a short live demo, and to give a lightning talk on federated curation. A delegation from our team also attended the subsequently following 2nd Base4NFDi User Conference (UC4B2025).Read more.

NFDI4ING Conference
At the NFDI4ING Conference in Darmstadt (September 15-16, 2025), the DALIA team presented the DALIA project. The conference brought together researchers, RDM experts and industry representatives to discuss shared challenges and developments in research data management. In the poster session, the DALIA team presented recent developments of the DALIA Interchange Format (DIF). The poster highlighted new picklists that enhance metadata consistency and improve the discoverability of resources listed in DALIA.
Campus FDM Event in Göttingen
The DALIA team participated in the FDM@Campus event to present the project and engage with the research data management community. Prof. Ulrich Sax and Alessandra Kuntz conducted a workshop titled “Sensitive Data – Reusable or Restricted?”, addressing key challenges in handling sensitive research data and mentioning DALIA as an example of supporting tools for secure data use. Additionally, the DALIA team presented a poster showcasing the project’s objectives, core functionalities, and relevance for researchers working with sensitive data. Throughout the event, the team was available to answer questions, provide information, and discuss the project’s potential applications. The participation at FDM@Campus offered a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas and raise awareness of DALIA’s contribution to responsible and compliant data management. Overall, it strengthened the project’s visibility within the academic and research data management community.
Learning and Sharing at the TEACH V Community Conference
The fifth TEACH (Talking about Education Across Communities at Helmholtz) Community Conference took place in Berlin from September 29 to October 1. As a participant-driven community event, it summons people from the Helmholtz education community as well as external experts to facilitate high-quality teaching across the Helmholtz Association and its partner institutions. During the conference, Jochen Ortmeyer got the chance to share NFDI4Chem’s approach towards education in data literacy. Read more
DALIA at Research Data Day 2025 in NRW
This year's Research Data Day was all about “FAIR data, FAIR play: Just a matter of line-up” In the morning, an online panel discussion took place, focusing on how the work in the NFDI consortia and sections affects everyday research. Prof. Dr. Sonja Herres-Pawlis was able to contribute her experiences with the DALIA section service in addition to her work for NFDI4Chem and the NFDI Education & Training section. Under the motto “FAIRplay in Practice – DALIA” the DALIA project presented itself in the afternoon as part of the on-site event program at RWTH Aachen University in the RDM Service Arena with a poster and a flash presentation. DALIA at the BioHackathon
Members of the DALIA team participated alongside representatives from the ELIXIR TeSS and BioSchemas projects in the 4th BioHackathon Germany, organized by the German Network for Bioinformatics Infrastructure (de.NBI). The theme of their track was “On the Path to Machine-actionable Training Materials”. Our DALIA member Charles Tapley Hoyt described his experiences on his blog.

The Future of DALIA
Although our first funding period by the BMFTR and the EU has now come to an end, DALIA will continue. DALIA will support the NFDI as a section service. We are looking forward to many OER contributions in the future. Also we will develop the functionalities of the search portal further to improve your experience as a user.
