DALIA,...?
We promote the learning and teaching of Data Literacy through the curated supply of open teaching and learning content, empowering everyone to collect, analyze, critically evaluate, and use data in a FAIR way.

MISSION & VISION

"DALIA - Data literacy for everyone right from the start!"

The knowledge base for “FAIR data usage and supply” serves as a federated knowledge base of the NFDI section “Training and Education” for teaching and learning materials to support cultural change and competence development in the FAIR supply and use of research data.

Working Fields

Quality Control and continuation

Generic and domain specific quality standards for learning and teaching material, metadata standards and mechanisms are the workingfields main aims. To not develop just another standard a close cooperations is held with the NFDI Consortia and the NFDI Sections “Education and Training”, Metadata and „Ethical, Legal and Social Aspects, „(Meta)data, Terminology and Provenience“.

Communication

Primary aim is to connect the RDM and Data-Literacy Community with DALIA and gather feedback regarding the communities needs. After analysing the feedback the information is communicated to the Workingfields 3-5 to integrate it directly into the development process. Regular DALIA Community workshops are organized as the main stage to present (possible) solutions and hear everyones - including your - voice.

Information model

The foundation for the knowledge base and ontology are developed in workingfield III based on existing vocabularies and analysis of the natural and technical language of learners, teachers, curators and other participants in the educational ecosystem. Beyond the scope of DALIA the ontology can be used for modelling RDM-processes, like the creation of datamanagement plans and documentation of data.

Technical infrastructure

Providing the server infrastructure for the knowledge base is aim of workingfield IV. First and foremost is the development of a infrastructure that offers access to the graph database based on standards via a backend system. This allows enriching metadata of educational resources in DALIA and interconnection with other platforms through existing and newly developed interfaces. Reuse of developed components and migration of infrastructure elements will be made possible by using containers (Docker).

Search and recommendation service

Workingfield V is creating the possibilities for user interaction with DALIA through a web application based interface. The development focuses on services for search and recommendation and feedback mechanisms including the collection of statistical data for optimizing those services and giving learners and curators feedback regarding specific quality criteria. A focal point to create a difference regarding other platforms is to integrate specific information regarding RDM proficiency, scientific domain, role and personal preferences to ensure high quality results of the services.

OUR CONNECTION

We are part of NFDI e.V.

DALIA is closely connected to the NFDI e.V. and actively generates synergies with the NFDI sections “Training & Education” (EduTrain) and “Ethical, Legal, and Social Aspects” (ELSA), as well as “(Meta)data, Terminologies, Provenance" and “Common Infrastructures”. The project significantly contributes to the promotion of data literacy and the creation of a data culture in the academic environment and beyond.
